Reverse Pressure Softening

This two-page sheet could help mothers with engorgement or extremely full breasts in the early days after delivery after milk has "come in". This resource shows how to soften the areola so the baby can then latch and get a big mouth on a mother's breast. It is easy for all mothers to learn and can be taught over the phone. This resource is also great for a teaching tool for professionals. The technique, developed by Jean Cotterman, is called reverse pressure softening, and could complement hand expression.
